While the clay is soft I choose what I want to use for my texture which was a doily.  I used a needle tool to trim off the excess clay then  I used a small roller to press the doily into the clay.  The feet I made with two balls, changed the shape as you can see, the larger foot was a coil.  After that I leave it until it is just dry enough to pull off and keep it’s shape, do not let it dry too long or it will crack as the clay drys and shrinks.

For this bowl I chose not to make any texture inside so I used the damp paper towel.   I will either use a paddle to form the clay slab to the rock or, just use my hands or even a damp sponge so theat I get the full shape of the rock.  In later post I will show you more of how I make my bowls.

I like to use rocks of different shapes and sizes.  Not only can you make bowls with them but masks can be done also.  Chose a rock that has a  lot character.  I use damp paper towels over the rock so that the clay does not stick but some times I will use a doily instead to give texture inside the bowl.  In following post I will show you more steps.

This bowl which is still has not gown through the final firing.  Because of the blend of clays I used, the natural look of the clay will be enough I think.  In the final firing. some of the clay will turn black.  If it turns out the way I think it will the bowl will have a stone look to it, so hope it does what I think it will.  This bowl was formed by using a rock.

Thank you to my new friend who gave this feeder a place to go along with a humming birdhouse.  Hope it brings her as much happiness as it did make me creating it.

Here is another angle of my sculpture.
